Perfect is the Enemy of the Good.

A good friend of mine always says that "perfect is the enemy of the good", an expression which is commonly attributed to Voltaire. One of my many achilles' heels have been my constant search for answers, perfection, absolutes, etc. in world that is not black and white at all. Striving for greatness in any endeavor, vocation or calling is noble and should be the goal; but sometimes I think I have allowed it to get in the way of my growth as a human being. We are all not perfect. Far from it.
Kintsugi is a Japanese art form in which breaks and repairs are treated as part of the object's history. Broken ceramics are carefully mended by artisans with a lacquer resin mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. The repairs are visible — yet somehow beautiful. This art form resonates with me so much now. I can talk about my imperfections for days and write books about them, yet they are what have made me a better person and who I am today.
As difficult as the journey has been and the many breaks and cracks I have gotten along the way, I can't help but believe I am better off for it.
I hope you are as well.

I like Leonard Cohen words from "Athem" - Forget your perfect offering - Ring the bells that still can ring - there is a crack in everything - that's how the light get's in.
